Sidobre and its rocks
Set between Castres and the granite massif, the Sidobre is a plateau unique in Europe, scattered with granite blocks in incredible shapes. The Peyro Clabado rock, an eight-hundred-tonne stone balanced on a tiny base, leaves you speechless. Marked paths wind through chaos and forests, sometimes sheltered by a stream. A walk together is as much a game as a hike.
Lacaune Mountains and lakes
Further east, the Lacaune Mountains and their thousand-metre plateau draw lovers of quiet. At the heart of the massif, Lake Raviège lines up beaches, pontoons and forest paths ideal for a picnic or a summer swim. In winter, snow transforms the landscape. The local pork butcher, Lacaune salting oblige, brings a gourmet touch to the pause.
Castres, Mazamet and the Black Mountain
On the town side, Castres surprises with its colourful houses along the Agout and its Goya Museum, while Mazamet, at the foot of the Black Mountain, is best discovered via the dizzying footbridge that leads to the medieval village of Hautpoul. On Lyad, members from the Tarn share their hikes and farm-inns; it is up to you to find someone to breathe deeply with.
